The University of Hartford softball team (17-10-1, 10-6) swept a conferencedoubleheader with Stony Brook University (20-23-5-11) on Wednesday afternoon.The Hawks won game one 4-2 and game two 5-0.
In game one, Stony Brook got on the board first, plating a run on the top ofthe third on an RBI double by Collen McCarthy (Sunrise, FL).
The Hawks responded with three runs in the bottom of the fourth on RBI singlesby Liz Borawski (Buffalo, NY) and Kim Schwimmer (Mahopac, NY), with the thirdrun scoring on a Sea Wolf error. Hartford added one more run in the bottom ofthe fifth on a Liz Nadeau (Woburn, MA) RBI single, and went on to the 4-1 win.
Nadeau, who went two for three with one RBI and one run scored, hurled allseven innings for the Hawks, allowing one run on three hits while striking outfive to raise her record to 7-5. Stephanie Poetzsch (East Islip, NY) went thedistance for Stony Brook, allowing three earned runs while striking out nine.
In game two, the Hawks’#146; Andi Miller (Severn, MD) pitched a complete gameshutout, scattering four hits while striking out five.
Hartford took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on Schwimmer RBI single,and plated two more in the bottom of the third on an RBI fielder’#146;s choiceby Borawski and an RBI sacrifice fly by Amy Sullivan (Woburn, MA). The Hawkswould add two more in the bottom of the sixth on a two RBI single by Bryn Weller(Arnold, MD).
Stony Brook would strand eight runners in the game, including four runnersin scoring position. Miller raises her record to 6-5 with the win, her thirdshutout of the season, while Lindsey DeLaRosa (East Moline, IL) would go thedistance while taking the loss for Stony Brook, striking out five.
Hartford will be in action tomorrow, April 25, when they host the Marist CollegeRed Foxes in a double header scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
