Kevin Pall’#146;s fourth goal of the game with 1:01 remaining gave Stony Brooka thrilling 10-9 comeback win over Quinnipiac in an America East matchup Saturdayafternoon at Seawolves Field. The win improved the Seawolves’ record to 2-2,1-1 in conference play while Quinnipiac fell to 1-3, 0-1 in America East action.
Quinnipiac jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter on goals by John Giordano,Andy Pelletier and Mike Baglio. Pall trimmed the lead to 3-1 off a feed fromTris Gillen at the 3:00 mark, but Baglio got his second of the game with twoseconds remaining in the quarter to extend the Braves lead to 4-1.
SB rallied to tie the game at four at the break with three unanswered goalsin the second quarter from Eric Hatkewitz, Jon Tompkins and Pall.
With the score tied at five in the third quarter, Baglio scored twice in aspan of 2:18 to put the Braves up 7-5. Matt Campolettano answered eight secondslater for the Brook to cut the lead to 7-6 but an unassisted tally by Giordanoput Quinnipiac up 8-6 heading into the final quarter.
Pall ignited the Seawolves’#146; rally with his third goal of the game at the10:22 mark of the final quarter. Freshman defenseman Kyle Pearl evened the scoreat eight 1:04 later when he raced the length of the field and fired at shotpast T.J. Barnett.
Quinnipiac would not go away and Joe Baglio’#146;s unassisted tally with 4:21to go again gave the Braves the lead at 9-8. The lead lasted only 59 secondsas George LaFlare found a cutting Steve Conlon in front of the Quinnipac goaland Conlon made no mistake to knot the game at nine.
Quinnipiac gained control of the next possession and set up for the game-winningshot. Jeff Speed fired a low-bouncing shot that Seawolves’#146;s goalie SteveArmsworthy turned aside with 1:10 to go and Aaron Weiss scooped up the looseball in front of the Seawolves goal and carried in downfield before findingPall to the right side of Barnett.
Pall ticketed the upper right hand corner of the net for the game-winning goal.It was the first time that Stony Brook held a lead for the entire day.
Mike Baglio led the way for the Braves with four goals and an assist whileBarnett made 11 saves.
Armworthy returned to the lineup for SB after missing the last two games witha knee injury to record 11 saves and earn his first win of the year.
