Four rooms in Greeley College were burglarized over spring break, according to campus officials.
The crime is under investigation and campus police have not named a suspect.
According to Assistant Chief of Stony Brook University Police Doug Little, three rooms on the third floor and one room on the first were victimized all without any sign of forced entry.
Jason Van Hoven, a Greeley College resident who had his Xbox stolen, said his room was locked before he left for vacation and it was locked when he arrived back to his room. “My roommate said he locked the door,” said Hoven. “I figured they had a key because it was locked when I got back.” Greeley College is located in Roosevelt Quad.
Though those who were burglarized claim to have many valuable items in their room, the only items taken were Xbox consoles and Xbox accessories. Zack Miller, who lives down the hall from Hoven, said he has a guitar and a television in his room and it appeared to not have been touched.
Greeley College, as do all dormitory buildings, has a master key but there was no sign it was used in this case, according to Baycan Fideli, director of Residential Risk Management. “There is a master key for emergencies,” Fideli said. “There is no evidence that the master key was pulled to get into.”
When asked who may have been involved, Fideli says “there are 30 possibilities,” Fideli said of who could have been involved. “It is dangerous and ignorant to predict.”
An Xbox and games had been recovered in the building by a student who turned it into authorities, according to Little. The owner has been notified, Little said and the student will receive the items after the investigation is complete.
Anyone who has information about this crime or any other crime is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS or 2TIPS from any campus phone.
