In the Feb. 2 issue of the Statesman, a news story described Stony Brook’s initiative to comply with the The United States Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, program. This is all well and good, but the story neglected one important detail: the financial costs of green technology. While improving all the time, green technology is still young and still expensive. Surely the University will perform a cost-benefit analysis to ensure the savings on energy costs outweigh the building costs before they squander tax payer money.
