With one win in the bag, the Stony Brook Ice Hockey team traveled down to Lynchburg, Virginia to get revenge against the Liberty Flames.
The Flames handed the Seawolves two opening weekend loses. But on Friday night Stony Brook was able to pay back the Flames when they secured a 4-3 victory in a shootout. The first period saw five goals scored. Liberty opened up a two-goal lead early, but Stony Brook roared back with three straight.
Robert Sacco had two goals in a three-minute span, and Sacco set up Joe Ree for the Seawolves third goal of the night shortly after that.
The game remained 3-2 Stony Brook into the third period, until Liberty was able to get another shot past Derek Stevens to tie the game.
After a scoreless overtime the teams went to a shootout. Derek Stevens stopped all three Liberty shooters and the Seawolves Chris Ryan was able to score the decisive goal for Stony Brook.
The Seawolves were not as fortunate on Saturday night. Liberty came out strong and scored five goals in the first ten minutes. Stony Brook came back with two of its own goals to make it a game, but Liberty kept the rout going with one more goal in the third and six in the second. The final score of 13-2 was the worst Seawolves defeat of the season.
The Seawolves travel to Westchester, PA, on Sunday to play a key conference game against Villanova.
The team returns home next Saturday night to take on LeHigh. Game time is scheduled for 8:00pm.
