A male resident student walking on campus Thursday night was pushed to the ground and robbed, said Douglas Little, Interim Chief of Police.
The student was walking between the Computing Center and Circle Road at 11:40 p.m. when he was approached by three males wearing dark clothing, gloves and skeleton masks, said Little. The attackers pushed him to the ground and took his backpack before fleeing in the direction of the engineering buildings, according to Little. The student was not injured.
Just 50 minutes later, at 12:30 a.m. on Friday, a female resident student reported she and her roommate were approached by a male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt who attempted to steal her purse as she walked adjacent to Route 25-A, in the vicinity of the Stony Brook Long Island Railroad Station, according to Little. The male fled across Route 25-A to the Cosmo’s Cafe parking lot where he entered a black sedan and drove off in an unknown direction, said Little.
Reports do not say if police believe the robbery and attempted robbery are related.
Police are encouraging anyone who may have information or observed any suspicious activity related to the incident to contact university police.
Students are encouraged to use the escort services on campus, either 632-RIDE or 632-WALK.
