A large crowd showed up to ChinaBlue’s Fourth Annual Mid-Autumn Festival on Wed, Sept. 17 to enjoy the delicious moon cakes and celebrate the beginning of autumn. From homemade desserts to tables of Mahjong and Chinese Checkers, Stony Brook students from all different backgrounds came down to the SAC Ballroom for a little taste of a Chinese tradition dating back to more than 3,000 years.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the two most important holidays in the Chinese calendar, the other being the start of the Lunar New Year, and it is a time for family members to gather and enjoy the beginning of autumn as they watch the bright full moon shine radiantly from above. The festival falls on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month of the Chinese calendar, which fell this year on Sunday, Sept. 14.’ (ChinaBlue is a Chinese American cultural club that produces weekly aired radio shows through WUSB.)
