Fraternity and Sorority Night, presented by the Inter-Fraternity and Sorority Council,
was held in Ballroom A of the Student Activities Center on Thursday night.
As students walked from table to table, they were greeted with friendly gestures and creative layouts by the different chapters.’ This night was all about the Greeks and how they presented themselves.
‘This night is for everyone to see what we do, at least the social aspect of it, and to promote school spirit,’ Paola Rosario, Chapter Orientation Advisor for Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc., said. She explained how important it was to promote scholarly excellence as well as empowerment of women and community activism.
At one table set up by Sigma Delta Tau, the girls explained how important it was to show the pride they had for their letters and their hope of bestowing that honor on their future members.’ The girls exhibited their commitment and respect they had for their chapter and their sisters by displaying crafts they had made to showcase their Greek letters.
The gentlemen of Sigma Lambda Beta wore their Greek letters on their shirts.
Not only was the night an exhibition of information and school spirit, but that of dance — each group had specific hand-signs, salutes, chants and strolls.
Before each group got on stage to perform in a showcase, they were announced and able to demonstrate their own way of letting themselves known to the room.’ The dance showcase allowed the different fraternities and sororities to show their spirit and the hard work members put into representing themselves.
The night brought some of the best aspects of the Stony Brook community together. The chapters were not only able to show off their dedication but also their service to the community and their traditions.
