Stony Brook’s volleyball team lost to Rhode Island, 3-0 on Thursday Sept. 4. The scores of the individual games were 17-25, 22-25, and 18-25, This match marked the opening match of the Art Carmichael Invitational in the Keaney Gymnasium. Senior Gulce Nazli Dikecligil led the team with 13 kills while also contributing eight digs.
On Friday Sept. 5, the Seawolves dropped a heart breaking match to Boston College. While Stony Brook was ahead in the game by winning two of the first three sets, the final two sets proved to be tough for the team as they lost 3-2 with match scores of 15-25, 27-25, 25-19, 17-25, and 6-15 at Keaney Gymnasium. Dikecligil grabbed her second double-double of the season with 13 kills and 14 digs while freshman Kelsey Sullivan contributed with 20 assists and 10 digs. With the loss, the Seawolves fell to 2-3.
Stony Brook’s final stumble of the weekend came on Saturday, when they lost in straight sets with scores of 25-18, 25-18, and 25-10 to South Carolina. The Seawolves fell to 2-4 with the loss.
However, they will have a chance at redemption at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday Sept 9 against Manhattan. The match is the home opener at Stony Brook’s own newly renovated Pritchard Gymnasium.
