Stony Brook’s women basketball team played their final game of the season on Mar. 14, where they played the Hartford Hawks in the quarterfinals of the America East Tournament. The final score of the game was 72-41, with the Hawks as the victor, ending the Seawolves’ season with an overall record of 8-23. Senior Aly Young led the Seawolves in scoring with nine points. The top-seeded Hawks eventually won the America East Championship, as they beat Boston University by a score of 61-45 in the championship game.
Before their game versus Hartford, the ninth-seeded Stony Brook beat eighth-seeded Maine by a score of 64-58 in the first round of the America East Tournament. Freshman Kirsten Jeter led the Seawolves in both scoring with 21 points, and rebounds with 12 in their victory over the Black Bears. Young contributed 13 points.
Being that the season is over, they now must say good-bye to their seniors Aly Young, Dana Ferraro, Morgan Patrick, and Cheri Davis. Young led the Seawolves in scoring this season, as she averaged 10.1 points a game. Ferraro, who was voted to the third All-Time Conference Team, her third all-team nomination, led the team in rebounding, averaging 8.4 boards a game.
Although they lose their top scorer and leading rebounder, the Seawolves will have a young and experienced group returning next season. Freshmen Kirsten Jeter, who was voted to the America East all-rookie team, and Misha Horsey averaged 21.4 and 28.7 minutes a game respectively. Jeter averaged 9.3 points a game and 4.5 rebounds a game, while Horsey averaged 5.7 points and 2.5 assists. Sophomore Kairsten Nunn also logged major minutes (21.4 per game), and averaged seven points a game, Although she played limited minutes through out the season (13.4), freshman Jodie Plikus also showed the ability to score, as she averaged 5.4 points a game.
