Deceased victims of Northern Illinois University attack identified

Feb. 15 – Stephen Kazmierczak killed six people when he opened fire on students in a lecture hall at Northern Illinois University (NIU) yesterday afternoon.

Kazmierczak, 27, of Champaign, Ill., went on a rampage yesterday when he barged into a lecture at NIU and immediately opened fire on the crowd of students. Right after, he shot and killed himself.

The victims of yesterday’s shooting have been identified by authorities as: Daniel Parmenter, 20, of Westchester, Ill.; Catalina Garcia, 20, of Cicero, Ill.; Ryanne Mace, 19, of Carpentersville, Ill.; Julianna Gehant,32, of Mendota, Ill.; and Gayle Dubowski, 20, of Carol Stream, Ill.

Yesterday’s death count currently stands at six, including Kazmierczak.

Daniel Parmenter, also a sophomore finance major, worked in the business department of the Northern Star — NIU’s school newspaper — as an advertising representative.

The Chicago Tribune reported that he was sitting in the first row with his girlfriend when he got a bullet to the head; his girlfriend was also shot.

The NIU campus will be holding a vigil tonight, Feb. 15, for those lost in the attack.

A miscommunication at the DeKalb Coroner’s office caused the reports that a seventh victim had died. There are, as of now, only six fatalities, including the gunman
