The Student Activities Board (SAB) held a Valentine’s Arts and Crafts Fair in the Student Activities Center (SAC) yesterday. There were tables set up for each craft and upbeat music filled the auditorium.
What could possibly be more romantic and sincere than a homemade Valentine’s Day gift from a friend or loved one?
Valentine’s Day is often seen as a materialistic, and potentially expensive, holiday for couples, but homemade gifts are a unique and inexpensive way to express love.
This event has been held for several years and each year there is a better turnout than the last.
“We’ve been doing this for a couple years,” said Natalia Lewis, Campus Life chairperson. “I think it is a really fun event and a lot of people seem to enjoy it.”
There were mostly females in attendance, but some males could be seen designing “I love you” pictures and decorating tote bags for their significant others.
The “make your own bouquet” was a big hit. There were several different colored roses to choose from to make distinct arrangements.
“It’s cool we get flowers and can make stuff for free,” said junior Jessica Williams. “This is my first year coming to this event but I think it is a cute idea”.
Rachel, a junior, was sewing a pillow for her mom. “This is my first time here,” she said. “I like making crafts for people.”
The SAB organizes many events on campus throughout the year to bring students together. This event gave students an opportunity to make something for the special someone in their life without having to burn holes in their wallets.
“Next year I’m sure more people will attend this event,” said Natalia Lewis. “It’s a fun and easy way to make something special for someone you care about.”
