The Simpsons have been on the air for nineteen seasons, and enough is enough. Luckily Family Guy is an alternative option for animated sitcoms. It is full of humor and wit that are uncomparable to what the Simpsons has to offer.
Yes, both shows feature a family of five, but the characters of Family Guy have a variety of personalities that give the storylines a perfect balance. There is the infamous baby, Stewie, who is known for his sarcastic remarks, cursing, and plot to take over the world. He has become a pop culture icon among young adults, and the show is worth watching just because of him. All Maggie does is suck her pacifier. Additionally, the Simpsons mainly offer Bart and Homer- both lacking the illuminating personality of Stewie.
The Simpsons is watched for the dumb plots, but Family Guy is where you crack up laughing over pop culture references. The writers of Family Guy have done an excellent job of alluding to current events and well known occurences of the past. By randomly incorporating such anecdotes, the show envelops a tasteful sense of humor. A memorable moment is seen where the family dog, Brian, randomly starts doing the “peanut butter jelly time” dance. Check it out on youtube.
Brian is another character that is more exciting than the Simpson’s family dog, Santa’s Little Helper. Brian talks sarcastically, whereas the Simpson’s dog is unintellectual and sniffs around.
Overall, Family Guy is more creatively written with the random nature of the show attracting millions of viewers.
