Books: I Loved…What is the What. Focusing on the story of the Lost Boys in Sudan, Dave Eggers retells a harrowing and deeply moving story with tremendous grace.
I Loved…The Kite Runner. If you have yet to read this book, get on it, folks. The movie version comes out this holiday season.
I Loved…I Am America! (And So Can You!). Stephen Colbert is on hiatus until the strike ends, so in the meantime pick this up to fulfill all your comedy needs.
I Hated…Every one of my textbooks. Granted they were rarely opened, and even less frequently read, but as far as I am concerned their content was pointless and in all likelihood boring.
I Hated…The Dangerous Book for Boys. I know, I know, it was wildly popular over the summer, sold millions of copies, yatta yatta yatta…but I don’t need or want to know how to skin a deer to fashion myself a buckskin jacket.
I Hated…Ann Coulter. I can’t tell if my hatred is directed to her books or to just her in general. Either way, she is deserving of all your wrath.
Movies: I Loved…Superbad. Alchemy may be a myth, but Judd Apatow comes closest; everything he touches turns into comedic gold.
I Loved…Ratatouille. Pixar has yet to make a bad movie, Brad Bird has yet to direct a bad movie, and both happen to be involved in this film.
I Loved…Knocked Up. The politics of abortion aside, Seth Rogan and Katherine Heigl act this movie to perfection.
I Hated…Transformers. This movie delivered action, crazy special effects, and the occasional laugh…everything except a plot.
I Hated…28 Weeks Later. Danny Boyle’s prequel was an instant classic. This one? The incompetencies of everyone involved in the making of this film is indescribable.
I Hated…Bratz. Now, I did NOT see this movie, but I have a very strict policy forbidding the use of the letter ‘z’ to replace an ‘s.’ Last year’s sinner: American Dreamz.
TV I Loved…30 Rock. I cannot stress enough the importance of watching this show. Just do it.
I Loved…The Daily Show/Colbert Report. Asking me which of these two is better is like asking a mother which of her two children she loves more: she does have a favorite, but doesn’t say so publicly.
I Loved…Real Sports w/ Bryant Gumbel. There were a million equally deserving shows for this last spot, but Real Sports w/ Bryant Gumbel has something none of the others have: intriguing stories and sports rolled into one.
I Hated…Grey’s Anatomy. I was suckered into watching a few episodes this season, and I literally almost cried at the realization that I could not regain those wasted precious hours.
I Hated…Cavemen. I hate the commercials, I hate the actors, I hate the music, I hate that damn Gecko. I’ll take the 15% on car insurance I save and use it to pay to get rid of this show.
I Hated…Bionic Woman. I so very much wanted to like this show, but I couldn’t muster the willpower to watch past episode three.
Music: I Loved…Timbaland Presents: Shock Value. The king of collaboration got the job done on this CD. With guests ranging from Missy Elliot to Elton John, Timbaland’s got a long guest list.
I Loved…the Across the Universe soundtrack. The movie didn’t make it onto my top movies list, but the reason it came close was the music.
I Loved…Kanye West’s Graduation. Forget for a minute that this album took ‘fitty’ to task in September; Any CD that features both Daft Punk and Chris Martin has my vote.
I Hated…the High School Musical 2 soundtrack. Since I am not a 12 year old suburban white girl, I was able to resist the frenzy that was High School Musical.
I Hated…Fergie’s The Dutchess. Fergie has no business making music, let alone signing record deals with huge record labels.
I Hated…Fall Out Boy’s Infinity on High. Fall Out Boy strikes the funny bone of my ears. And no, that does not mean funny ha ha.

BRADLEY DONALDSON, ASST. NEWS EDITOR

EMILY GOVER, COPY EDITOR
Movie
I loved ‘Ratatouille’ because there was over 100 minutes of adorably obese rodents, strikingly precise Parisian locations, all done in brilliant CGI ‘- what’s NOT to love?
‘Hate’ is too strong a word, but ‘High School Musical 2’ was a great disappointment considering all the hype that was built up right after the first ‘HSM’ success.
TV Show
I loved ‘Scrubs’ because Hooch (‘he’s crazy!’) and Dr. Beardface are back!
I hated ‘Life In the Fab Lane With Kimora Lee Simmons’ because the show makes me want to gouge my eyes out before the first commercial break.’
Music Album
I loved Streetlight Manifesto’s ‘Somewhere In The Between’ because Kalnoky & Co. did not disappoint after this much-awaited four year break.
Book
I loved ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’ because after ten years in the making, the end to a huge part of my childhood came to a close, but any HP book is a love of mine.

Album:
‘
I loved Kanye West’s ‘Graduation’ because it was a refreshing reminder of how versatile hip hop can be.
I loved DJ Tiesto’s ‘Elements of Life’ because his trance still makes me feel the same way that I felt while hearing ‘Silence’ for the first time.
I hated Linkin Park’s ‘Minutes to Midnight’ because their music reminds me of a phase in life that I think we’ve all left behind.
‘
Film:
‘
I loved ‘No Country for Old Men’ because it’s as dirty as a respectable film can be, and as honest as contemporary cinema rarely is.
I hated ‘Spiderman 3’ because turning Peter Parker EMO is just going too far!
‘
SURAJ RAMBHIA, EDITOR-IN-CHIEF
Love it because Charles, Kenny, and Ernie give the viewers good basketball commentary with unforced comedy.
House MD
The only reason I’m putting House MD on the hate column is because of the new team, Kutner, Taub, and Thirteen.’ They just don’t cut it in my book.
LYNN HSIEH, NEWS EDITOR
I hate ‘Samantha Who?’ The show is just irritating.
Music
Stefani’s ‘4 in the morning’ and ‘Early Winter.’ Although the album came out in 2006, the videos came out recently, and the songs deserved to be mentioned.
I hate most of her other songs in the album. She should stick to pop and stay away from rap.

Hated: ‘Crank That’ by Soulja Boy, and whatever ‘Superman dat hoe’ means, i don’t want to know.
TEJAS GAWADE, ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT EDITOR
Loved: ‘America’s Most Smartest Model’ because, let’s face it, VJ is the hottest snake ever.
‘I Am America (And So Can You!)’ because it showed how Colbert had superseded his Guru, Jon Stewart, in every respect.
Radiohead’s ‘In Rainbows’ because it is probably the only free legal download that I felt guilty about downloading.
Hated: ‘Greek’ because it became quite apparent that the producers had probably never set foot on a campus before.
‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’ because even after giving J. K. Rowling an immense benefit of doubt, her measly epilogue crushes any respect I’ve ever had for her.
50 Cent’s ‘Curtis,’ and I hope he holds true to his word of not’ producing if he came behind Kanye.
