SB Loses Heart Breaker In New Hampshire
Through the first 100 minutes of play both defenses held strong, but New Hampshire’s A.J. Dubois broke a scoreless tie in the 101st minute to lift New Hampshire over SB on Oct. 17.
Dawid Ditrich started in goal, and was able to stop the first three New Hampshire shots that found their way on goal, but Dubois’ shot from the left side eluded him. New Hampshire’s Mike Jenne was also up to the task, making five total saves, as well as one in overtime.
Once again, SB was able to attempt more shots than their opponents, (16-11) and put more shots on goal (5-4), but they were unable to pick up a victory.
SB Drops Tough Game At Boston University
After a strong first half that saw SB out shoot the Boston University Terriers 10-1, SB let the game get away from them with a sloppy two minute span in which BU scored twice. The loss dropped SB to 7-6-2 overall and 1-3-1 in conference. BU improved to 8-5-1 overall, and 2-1-1 in conference play.
SB nearly went ahead late in the first half. Off a free kick from just outside the box, SB was called off sides after the ball was in the net. SB kept the momentum in their favor and kept the pressure on BU until halftime.
Up to this game SB had been a better team in the second half than they were in the first. They have outshot their opponents by 31 shots after the intermission. But they were unable to take their momentum into the second half and BU was able to virtually put the game away in a flash.
BU’s first goal came off a long cross that was headed into the middle. Goaltender Dawid Ditrich stumbled and was not able to hang onto the ball and after it got away Samuel Appiah was waiting to put it in the back of the net.
Only 1:08 later, BU’s Sean Taylor streaked down the right sideline and beat two defenders as he cut across the middle of the field. He fired a shot that just eluded the reach of Ditrich and put the Terriers up 2-0. On that day Ditrich was able to stop three of the five shots on goal he faced.
Diego Acero came off the bench for SB to finally get the team on the board in the 90th minute. Yahaya Musa assisted on Acero’s first career goal. Senior Michael Palacio led the offensive charge, attempting seven shots and getting three of them on goal.
