A female Stony Brook University student was accosted on the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 23. The incident took place near ‘the bike path near the North Entrance,’ according to an email addressed to all faculty, staff and students by University Police Chief, Richard Young.
The student reported that the person responsible for this was a tall, medium-built man around 5′ 8′ to 6′ with a dark, hooded sweatshirt. The email informed that the man fled upon the student’s resistance. The woman is also reported to have received ‘immediate support, and [was] advised of counseling and other support services available.’
According to Young, patrols have been increased and the University Police are seeking information relevant to the event, which may be sent by dialing 911 from anywhere on campus.
Members of the Stony Brook community are encouraged to use caution and to utilize the diverse sources offered by the University, such as the Wo/Men’s and Gender Resource Center (WGRC), which offer confidential support and counseling services to victims of assault and/or attempted assault. The services may be reached at 2-9666.
