Britney’s back! Just this past week, the hard-partying mother of two took the music world by surprise when JIVE records released her first single, ‘Gimme More,’ to both Z100 and KIIS FM. It is rumored that a few other stations have been playing Britney Spears’ new track but there is no word whether or not the single will make Billboard’s Top 10. Rumors have also been stirring that the legendary Spears will be performing at the MTV Video Music Awards this Sunday night, Sept. 8, with illusionist Criss Angel. Britney’s second single, ‘Cold as Fire,’ is just as sexy and catchy as ‘Gimme More,’ finally giving Britney fans everywhere the right to say, ‘It’s Britney, b-tch!’
In the rap world, the ongoing feud continues between rappers Kanye West and 50 Cent, who both have albums dropping on Sept. 11. In early August, according to the Times of India, 50 Cent swore that he would leave the music industry if West’s album, ‘Graduation,’ sold more copies than his own album, ‘Curtis.’
‘Let’s raise the stakes,’ 50 Cent said. ‘If Kanye West sells more records than I do on September 11, I’ll no longer perform music.’
Kanye later commented by saying, ‘I thought it was the stupidest thing. When my album drops and 50’s album drops, you’re going to get a lot of good music at the same time.’
Kanye’s first single, ‘Stronger,’ which has been at number three on the Billboard charts for the past five weeks, has gained a significant amount of popularity from fans leaving 50 Cent, whose single did not even make the charts, lagging in the dust.
Although 50 Cent may be behind in the race, his second single ‘Ayo Technology,’ featuring Justin Timberlake, blows Kanye’s second single ‘Can’t Tell Me Nothing’ out of the water. As for the album, Curtis has more featured artists on the album, such as Justin Timberlake, Mary J. Blige, Akon and Eminem, than Kanye’s ‘Graduation.’ Although it is still too early to say whose album will have more success, it is time to make your wager.
