During the summer time many New Yorkers leave on vacation or try to at least get away from their surroundings to experience something different. Congratulations to the people who stay in New York because there are several exciting events all summer long. And guess what? They’re free!
For those who want to workout, but at the same time need to get away from a stressful day to simply stretch out and relax, there is a yoga class in Union Square Park every Wednesday at 3:00 PM. Union Square Park is located on E. 14th Street between Broadway and Park Avenue.
ABC’s “Good Morning America” hosts free summer concerts every Friday morning at 7:00 AM in Bryant Park, which is located on 41st Street and 6th Avenue. So if you plan on going, remember that the early bird catches a good seat!
Now let us get to the people who don’t like exercising and could not wake up early if the world were coming to an end: on Aug. 13, as part of the Summer Film Festival, the classic 1942 film “Casablanca” will be shown on the Bryant Park Lawn located between 40th and 42nd Street and 5th and 6th Avenue. The lawn will open at 5:00 PM, so bring a blanket and your picnic basket!
Take a trip to the islands without dealing with those nasty insects. From July 19 through Aug. 31, Gallery Hanahou, located on 611 Broadway suite 730, converts into a summer haven filled with images of summer getaways and imaginary worlds. So get on your imaginary plane and go!
Ever thought about kayaking, but could not afford it? Well now all you have to do is make the time because the New York City Downtown Boathouse offers kayaking excursions through Oct. 14 at Pier 40, Pier 96 and the waterside promenade in Riverside Park. For more information call (646) 613-0375.
