The Stony Brook Seawolves football team will feature 13 new players. 8 are transfers. According to Head Coach Chuck Priore, they brought in as many transfers as they did in order to help gain “immediate success,” adding that it is difficult for freshmen to compete right away.
The team features players from all over the country, including Michigan, Florida, and several from California. There are also a couple of local players, including safety Jovany Lazo, a Brentwood native transferring in from Nassau Community College. Priore said that the west-coast recruiting was because of the quality of the football, as well as “east-coast ties.”
Looking toward the future of the team, the coach said that there is no clear successor yet for quarterback Josh Dudash, who will be graduating after the 2007 season. He adds that competition for the backup spot will continue in August. The season begins September 1 at LaValle Stadium against Georgetown at 6PM.
