WrestleMania 41 took place in April, and the wrestling world is still buzzing from the event.
The annual “Showcase of the Immortals” was held at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nev., from April 19-20. The weekend was filled from top to bottom for both nights of the biggest World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) premium live event of the year.
This was the first WrestleMania that took place in Nevada since 1993 when WrestleMania IX took place at Caesars Palace in the Las Vegas suburb of Paradise, making it the first one to take place outdoors.
Night 1, Match 1: “The Ring General” Gunther (champion) vs. “Main Event” Jey Uso in a singles match for the World Heavyweight Championship
On Saturday, the first match of WrestleMania 41 featured the World Heavyweight Champion, “The Ring General” Gunther, squaring off against “Main Event” Jey Uso for the title.
Uso won the men’s 2025 Royal Rumble, eliminating John Cena last and punching his ticket to WrestleMania, where he challenged Gunther.
Gunther entered the match holding the title for 259 days after he defeated then-champion Damian Priest at SummerSlam 2024 in Cleveland, Ohio. “The Ring General” was also the winner of the 2024 King and Queen of the Ring Tournament that took place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where he beat Randy Orton from “Friday Night SmackDown” for the title and a chance to challenge Priest for the World Heavyweight Championship.
At six feet and four inches, Gunther stands as one of the most dominant champions of the modern era. As NXT UK champion, he held the title for over two years (870 days) and held the Intercontinental Championship for 666 days before losing it to Sami Zayn at WrestleMania XL. Gunther has held a championship for over 75% of the time he has been with the company.
The match started slow, but Gunther started to settle in and go on the offensive attack, delivering big chops to the chest of Uso. After hitting Uso with the championship when the referee got distracted, “The Ring General” climbed up to the top rope, hitting Uso with a splash, but Uso kicked before the count of three. Gunther, frustrated about the kick out, put Uso into the signature sleeper hold but couldn’t hold on.
Both competitors exchanged blow after blow, looking to get the upper hand. The momentum would shift from Gunther to Uso after Gunther tried to perform a powerbomb but was countered, allowing Uso to perform a powerbomb of his own. He would follow that up with back-to-back superkicks, then hit a spear to the gut of Gunther.
The match ended with Uso hitting the “Uso Splash” three times on “The Ring General,” followed by Uso putting Gunther in his own sleeper hold. Uso forced Gunther to tap out and became the new World Heavyweight Champion. It was poetic justice for Uso as that was the same move Gunther put his brother Jimmy Uso in just a few weeks prior.
It will be interesting to see what Uso’s reign as the new champion will look like, and what feuds he will have.
Night 1, Match 2: “The War Raiders” (Erik and Ivar) (champions) vs. “The New Day” (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods) in a tag team match for the World Tag Team Championship
The next match featured “The New Day” versus “The War Raiders” for the World Tag Team Championship.
It was a battle between two decorated tag teams that started out slow but kicked into gear with both teams performing double-team maneuvers.
The New Day were primarily babyfaces (good guys) in their time on the roster. However, on the Dec. 2, 2024 episode of “WWE Raw” (1993—) in the 10-year celebration of the group, they turned into heels (became bad guys) on their teammate, Big E.
With The New Day being heels, they used underhanded tactics during a particularly bland match. Kingston and Woods looked to do a double-team move on Ivar, but Erik prevented it by knocking Woods out of the air. Erik went for the “Full Nelson” slam, but was countered, then Kingston hit him with the “Trouble in Paradise” to force him out of the ring.
With Kingston and Ivar now in the ring, Ivar hit him with a spinning heel kick and a “Doomsday-Sault,” but Woods prevented the pinfall by hitting an elbow drop on Ivar.
The War Raiders looked to end the match by performing their finishing move, “War Machine,” but were stymied by Kingston. After that went south for the Raiders, Ivar landed on his surgically-repaired neck, allowing the New Day to piston themselves for the win and Woods hitting a double-foot stop on Ivar, winning the World Tag Team Championship.
Erik and Ivar’s reign as tag champs ended at 124 days. The win for Kingston and Woods was their first tag team championship in more than two years, and is their 12th time as tag champs.
Night 1, Match 3: Jade Cargill vs. Naomi in a singles match
The third match of night one pitted Jade Cargill against Naomi.
The build-up for this match between the two dated back to November when Cargill was mysteriously attacked. There was a months-long speculation about who her attacker was. At the time, Cargill made up half of the Women’s Tag Team Champions with Bianca Belair, who would have been forced to relinquish the titles, but Naomi went in place of Cargill.
They would lose the tag titles on the Feb. 24, 2025 episode of “Raw” to Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez. Just five days later, at the Elimination Chamber premium live event at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, the opening match was the five-women chamber match. Naomi and Morgan started the match against each other. Cargill then made an entrance, returning from the attack. She looked like she was going to attack Morgan, but she went after Naomi, preventing her from competing in the match.
On the March 7, 2025 episode of “SmackDown,” Naomi admitted to Belair that she was the one who attacked Cargill months prior. This began the weeks-long back-and-forth of Naomi and Cargill.
It was an exciting, back-and-forth match that featured a ton of offensive attacks from both competitors.
Naomi looked to fight back, jumping from the top rope, but was countered by Cargill with a fallaway slam. However, she fought back, hitting Cargill with a split-legged moonsault, but could not get the three-count.
Cargill would eventually get the upper hand on Naomi by performing her finisher, “Jaded,” and pinning Naomi to win the match.
Night 1, Match 4: LA Knight (champion) vs. Jacob Fatu in a singles match for the United States Championship
The following match was the third title match of the night and was for the WWE United States Championship, with LA Knight defending his title against “The Samoan Werewolf” Jacob Fatu. This was Knight’s second reign as U.S. champion after holding the title in his first reign for 119 days.
There was a ton of early offense for Knight and Fatu. After Knight hit a neckbreaker, he looked to hit his finishing move, “Blunt Force Trauma (BFT),” but it was countered by “The Samoan Werewolf,” who would then hit a pop-up Samoan drop on the champ.
Later on in the match, Knight performed an elbow drop on Fatu, but he kicked out before the count of three. After that, he did a suplex-like move to Fatu, but he didn’t get the count once again.
Fatu then went for the moonsault, but Knight caught him and hit him with a BFT out of mid-air, although he was not able to pick up the win after Fatu grabbed the rope, forcing the rope to break.
After Fatu delivered a Samoan drop from the top rope, he hit back-to-back moonsaults, pinning Knight, and becoming the new United States Champion. The loss ended Knight’s reign at 43 days. The win gives Fatu his first single title, which comes just 10 months after making his debut on the main roster.
Night 1, Match 5: El Grande Americano vs. Rey Fénix in a singles match
Night one’s fifth match albeit a shorter match, was an entertaining one. It featured two luchadores — “El Grande Americano” Chad Gable and Rey Fénix. It was initially going to be Rey Mysterio going up against El Grande, but he suffered an injury the previous night on “SmackDown,” so Fénix went in his place.
Prior to the start of the match, Americano got into a heated exchange with fellow luchador El Hijo del Vikingo at ringside, shoving him. Vikingo then delivered a high kick to his head, shaking up Americano before he went to the ring. Vikingo was there because he is a member of Lucha Libre Triple A Worldwide, which was acquired by WWE earlier that day.
There were back-and-forth attacks between the luchadores, with Fénix performing a “Black Fire Driver” to El Grande, but he kicked out at two. With the referee distracted, Americano put a metal plate into his mask. Fénix went for a kick to the face of El Grande but hurt his ankle in the process.
After Americano put Fénix in an ankle lock, he looked to win the match and hit him with a diving headbutt to secure the pinfall victory.
Night 1, Match 6: Tiffany Stratton (champion) vs. Charlotte Flair in a singles match for the WWE Women’s Championship
The second to last match of the first night of WrestleMania 41 had WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton defending her title against women’s 2025 Royal Rumble winner, Charlotte Flair, who looked to win her 15th title on the main roster. Stratton won the title in early January when she cashed in her Money in the Bank Briefcase contract on then-champion Nia Jax.
The build-up to this match was not that great, but later reversed course as the feud between the two got very personal.
This would lead to how the match started, with Flair going on the early offensive attack against Stratton. There were many close finishes in the match, as it was very back-and-forth. The momentum shifted, and Flair performed a “Natural Selection” from the top rope.
However, that would be all for her as Stratton was able to put her in position for his finishing move, “Prettiest Moonsault Ever,” retaining her championship.
Night 1, Match 7: CM Punk vs. Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins in a triple threat match
The main event of night one was one of the best WrestleMania main events of all time. It was a triple-threat match featuring CM Punk, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins. It carried significance as Paul Heyman was in Punk’s corner for the match due to the favor he owed him.
The favor storyline started at Survivor Series: WarGames in November 2024 in Vancouver, British Columbia, where Punk teamed with Reigns and the Original Bloodline (Reigns, Jey and Jimmy Uso and Sami Zayn). The team would win, defeating Solo Sikoa and the New Bloodline (Sikoa, Jacob Fatu, Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa and Bronson Reed). The favor that Heyman owed Punk was to help him get in a match in the main event of WrestleMania, which is what happened.
The entrances of each competitor were fantastic, with Rollins entering in all-black attire and a flamethrower, which then switched to all-white. Reigns’ entrance featured screens around him that had the members of the Anoaʻi family on them that included the “Wild Samoans,” Afa and Sika. Punk was played out to the ring by Living Colour, as they performed the song “Cult of Personality,” which Punk has used for years. It was the first time the band had played at WrestleMania for Punk since WrestleMania 29 at MetLife Stadium when he faced off against the Undertaker.
It was a phenomenal triple threat that had a lot of close finishes. Punk, Reigns and Rollins battled it out and used their finishers multiple times in the match.
All three competitors gave themselves chances to win. Punk was close to winning after hitting his finisher, “Go to Sleep (GTS),” multiple times but couldn’t secure the victory. That is the same with Reigns with the spear and Rollins with the curb stomp.
Reigns and Rollins, who were both members of “The Shield,” looked like they were going to team up briefly to attack Punk, but that would only last for a very short time. Rollins hit Reigns with a Shield powerbomb through the announce table before doing the same to Punk.
Later, with all three men down in the ring, Heyman took a steel chair from behind the barricade. He had to decide whether he would hand it to Punk or Reigns but eventually gave it to Punk, his long-time best friend. Unfortunately for Punk, Heyman hit him with a low-blow, betraying him.
After that, he gave the chair to Reigns and pointed in Rollins’ direction. Heyman directed Reigns to hit Rollins with the chair in the back, which is exactly what Rollins did to Reigns in 2014, breaking up “The Shield” on the June 2, 2014 episode of “Raw.” However, just like Heyman did to Punk, he also did to Reigns, turning on him as well.
Rollins then hit Roman in the back with a chair shot, followed up with a curb stomp, then pinned him to win the match. This allied Rollins and Heyman, solidifying Rollins as a “Paul Heyman guy.”
Night 2, Match 1: Iyo Sky (champion) vs. Bianca Belair vs. Rhea Ripley in a triple threat match for the Women’s World Championship
The next night would start in a very exciting way as Women’s World Champion Iyo Sky defended her title in a triple threat match versus Bianca Belair and Rhea Ripley. Belair competed in this match because she won the 2025 women’s Elimination Chamber match.
The build-up for the match was very confusing at times, as Ripley was able to get herself into the match about a month prior. Sky was overlooked in the lead-up, as the focus was mostly on Belair and Ripley.
This was one of the most entertaining matches of the weekend between the three high-caliber superstars. Ripley almost secured the win when she hit her finishing move, “Riptide,” on Belair but ended up not delivering on the move.
After Belair attempted the “Kiss of Death (K.O.D.)” on Ripley, it was countered, and they squared off in the middle of the ring. As Belair attempted the K.O.D. again, hitting it this time, she looked to pin Ripley, but Sky then hit the “Over the Moonsault” to win and retain her championship.
Night 2, Match 2: Damian Priest vs. Drew McIntyre in a Sin City Street Fight
In the second match on Sunday, Damian Priest faced off against Drew McIntyre in a Sin City Street Fight. Tensions had been high between the two as they have been feuding for a while.
Their feud traces back to WrestleMania XL when McIntyre defeated Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship, but Priest cashed in his Money in the Bank contract and beat him by hitting a “South of Heaven” chokeslam, winning the title. CM Punk was also partially at fault for him losing the title, as he was a part of the commentary for the match, and interfered. McIntyre held the title for just five minutes and 46 seconds.
McIntyre entered the match with gear inspired by the game “Doom: The Dark Ages.” On the other hand, Priest entered with a performance by Slayer guitarist Kerry King.
It was a violent matchup between Priest and McIntyre in which they wasted no time starting. Early in the match, outside of the ring, Drew delivered a suplex to Damian onto the entrance ramp.
A little bit later, with Priest down, McIntyre lined him up for a “Claymore,” but Priest threw a chair at him. McInytre was able to quickly recover and hit the “Claymore” on Damian.
In the final stage of the match, Priest went for “Old School,” a move the Undertaker used in his career. McIntyre countered it, pushing him off the top rope, sending him crashing through the tables.
McIntyre set himself up for the win when he positioned Priest’s head against a steel chair in the corner, then hit him with a “Claymore,” and pinned him for the victory.
Night 2, Match 3: Bron Breakker (champion) vs. Dominik Mysterio vs. Finn Bálor vs. Penta in a fatal four-way match for the Intercontinental Championship
The next match was a fatal four-way for the Intercontinental Championship and Bron Breakker, the champion, went up against Dominik Mysterio, Finn Bálor and Penta. It was Breakker’s second reign with the title, with his first reign lasting just 51 days after losing to Jey Uso. He would win back the championship four weeks later from Uso.
Mysterio, the son of WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio, was fantastic in the match. Early in the match, he teamed with Bálor, one of his teammates in The Judgement Day, to go after Breakker.
Breakker, however, would get the upper hand and hit Bálor with a Frankensteiner, made famous by his uncle, Scott Steiner, but Bálor kicked at two. It was one of many false finishes in the title match.
Later on, Penta hit a “Mexican Destroyer” on Mysterio and looked to secure the win but was pulled out of the ring by another member of The Judgement Day, Carlito. As Carlito was standing on one announce table, Breakker was on the other, dove to the top of the other table and hit him with a spear.
Mysterio then had Breakker in position for the “619,” which he hit, but was prevented from hitting the frog splash by Bálor. Immediately after that, Finn performed a sling blade move on Breakker, hit him with a “Coup de Grace” double-foot stomp and looked like he was going to become the new champ.
However, Mysterio hit a frog splash from the top rope on Breakker and Bálor, moving Breakker out of the way and pinning Bálor to become the new Intercontinental Champion.
Night 2, Match 4: Randy Orton vs. Joe Hendry in an open challenge singles match
Night two’s fourth match featured 14-time champion Randy Orton in an open challenge. He was originally going to face Kevin Owens, but Owens suffered a neck injury that required surgery.
This was Orton’s 20th WrestleMania match of his career. The first of his career came at WrestleMania XX at Madison Square Garden as a member of “Evolution,” teaming up with Batista and Ric Flair against the Rock ‘n’ Sock Connection (The Rock and Mick Foley) in a three-on-two handicap match.
Orton came out in gear similar to the gear he wore in his television debut in a match against Hardcore Holly on the April 25, 2002 episode of “SmackDown!” The open challenge would be answered by current TNA Champion Joe Hendry, who came out to his song, “I Believe in Joe Hendry.” He won the title, beating champion Nic Nemeth, formerly known as Dolph Ziggler, at TNA Genesis in January.
It was a short, but great match to watch. Both Orton and Hendry showcased their abilities as they executed excellent moves. This included a neckbreaker that Hendry hit on Orton.
Orton bounced back from that, then went on the offensive, delivering clotheslines to the Scottish superstar. He then hit Hendry with a scoop powerslam, followed up by hitting him with “Vintage Orton.”
Orton then lined up Hendry, looking to close out the match, but Hendry countered and hit him with a fallaway slam, and did a kip up.
That would be all for the TNA Champion as he turned around after performing the kip up, and Orton hit him with an “RKO” out of nowhere to win the match.
After the match, Orton applauded Hendry for his performance. In typical Orton fashion, he got Hendry to turn around and hit him with another “RKO.”
Night 2, Match 5: AJ Styles vs. Logan Paul in a singles match
In the fifth match of the second night, Logan Paul went head-to-head with AJ Styles. It was Styles’ first WrestleMania match since WrestleMania 38 in Arlington, Texas, when he faced Edge.
It ended up being an awesome match between Paul and the veteran Styles. Both competitors had amazing performances with plenty of great moments.
Later in the match, Paul hit Styles with his own finishing move, the “Styles Clash,” and went for the pinfall victory, but Styles kicked out. Immediately after, Styles hit Paul with the “Styles Clash.”
After that, one of the guys from Paul’s crew took a brass knuckle from under the ring, but was stopped by Karrion Kross, who gave it to Styles and told him to hit Paul with it. Styles refused, threw it away and punched Kross.
Logan was able to pick up the win after he hit Styles with a punch and hit him with his finisher, the “Paulverizer.”
Night 2, Match 6: Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez (champions) vs. Lyra Valkyria and an unknown partner in a tag team match for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship
The penultimate match of WrestleMania 41 was for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. The champions, Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez, defended their third reign with the titles. Their challengers were Women’s Intercontinental Champion Lyra Valkyria and an unknown partner.
Bayley was going to be tagging with Valkyria after they won a tag team gauntlet match on the April 11, 2025 episode of “SmackDown,” allowing them to challenge for the titles. However, Bayley was attacked backstage, making her unable to compete.
Before the match started, Lyra awaited her tag team partner, and it was revealed as seven-time WWE champion Becky Lynch, who Morgan defeated for the Women’s World Championship at King and Queen of the Ring 2024.
Later in the match, Morgan looked to win it for her team and hit the “Oblivion” on Lynch, but Valkyria broke up the pinfall attempt. Valkyria then jumped through the ropes, but was caught by Rodriguez. Valkyria was able to counter and hit her with a tornado DDT.
Lynch and Morgan were then both in the ring, and Lynch hit her with the “Manhandle Slam” to win the tag titles. This was the second time Becky has won the tag titles, and the first time for Valkyria. Morgan and Rodriguez’s third tag team title reign ended at 55 days.
Night 2, Match 7: “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes (champion) vs. John Cena in a singles match for the Undisputed WWE Championship
The main event of WrestleMania 41 on Sunday was a match for the Undisputed WWE Championship, which was defended by “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes against John Cena, who was looking to win his record-breaking 17th championship. He won his first-ever WWE championship at WrestleMania 21 in Los Angeles when he defeated John “Bradshaw” Layfield (JBL) for the title.
Rhodes won the Undisputed WWE Championship on night two of WrestleMania XL on April 7, 2024, beating Roman Reigns and “finishing the story.” Reigns had held the title for 1,316 days.
A month and a half before the match at Elimination Chamber, Cena turned into a heel and sold his soul to The Rock, betraying Rhodes.
After the main event started with a slow, deliberate pace, it kicked into another gear after Cena hit Rhodes with back-to-back shoulder tackles and a side slam. He then went to do the “Five Knuckle Shuffle,” but Rhodes poked him in the eye. Rhodes then followed it with a powerslam, a disaster kick, and a “Cody Cutter.”
A little after, Rhodes went for the “Bionic Elbow,” which pays tribute to his late father, “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes, but Cena countered.
After space was put between the two computers, Cena hit Rhodes with the “Attitude Adjustment,” but Rhodes stayed alive. Cena then finally hit him with the “Five Knuckle Shuffle.
Rhodes then went to hit the “Cross Rhodes” on Cena, but he countered and delivered another “Attitude Adjustment,” and locked Rhodes into his signature submission move, but he was able to separate himself from Cena. However, that would force Cena into the referee Chad Patton, which knocked him out.
After Cena went for another “Attitude Adjustment,” Rhodes thwarted it, hit him with the “Cross Rhodes,” and went for the pinfall. But, there were no officials there to count to three.
This is where the tides would turn as Travis Scott came out to assist Cena. He was there when Cena betrayed Rhodes at Elimination Chamber and joined The Rock. Scott slowly walked down to the ring and stood outside of it.
Even with Scott at ringside, Rhodes was able to hit Cena with another “Cross Rhodes,” but was not able to get the win because Scott pulled Patton out of the ring, preventing him from making the count.
With Cena then rolling out of the ring, Rhodes and Travis Scott began yelling at each other, and Scott entered the ring. After he went for a cheap shot, Rhodes caught him and hit him with a “Cross Rhodes.” It was a receipt that Scott received after he slapped him right in the face at Elimination Chamber, causing a ruptured eardrum and a black eye.
Cena was then back in the ring with the title belt in his hands, but Rhodes’ back was turned and he didn’t see it. Rhodes just barely prevented Cena from hitting him with the belt, and Rhodes was able to take it.
Rhodes had the chance to hit Cena with the championship belt, but Cena was begging him not to. WWE lead announcer Michael Cole then yelled, “Be a good guy or be a bad guy!” Unfortunately for Rhodes, his indecision cost him as Cena hit him with a low blow, kicking him below the belt.
Cena dealt one more blow to Rhodes by hitting him with the title belt. He then went to pin Rhodes for the victory, with the referee Patton just barely getting back into the ring. Patton counted the one-two-three, and Cena defeated Rhodes, becoming a 17-time WWE champion, breaking the record, and surpassing Ric Flair for the most titles in history. With the loss, Rhodes’ reign as champion ended at 378 days.
It is Cena’s first WWE championship since 2017 when he defeated AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble and captured his 16th title, which tied Flair.
Now with Cena calling himself the “Last Real Champion” and vowing to “ruin wrestling,” it will be interesting to see how this leads to future events and how the landscape of the company changes.
