Been to the SAC lately? Every afternoon, the Student Activities Center is turned into a breeding ground for hunger-ridden students who hover like fleas over the various food booths.’ With the lines, crowds, and the lack of seats, it’s impossible to predict how long it will take the average luncher to get out of the building alive.’ Twenty minutes?’ Thirty?’ Forty?’ An hour and a half?’ Too long, in any case.’
At fault is the gross myopia of 1980’s-era administrators.’ How could they have designed the SAC without accounting for the fact that it’s the geographic center of West Campus?’ Even when the layout of campus was slightly different two decades ago, the future SAC was quite obviously smack in the middle of every major academic building.’
The FSA’s plan to divert traffic away from the SAC is sound in theory.’ It’s very easy to get excited about a Starbucks and a new-and-improved Bleacher Club, but FSA’s track record forces us to wonder when, exactly, these renovations will occur.’ Students might recall promises of a Starbucks from as far back as last fall – it was supposed to open this Jan.
Some of the renovations planned for this summer have been planned out since at least last fall, though, and are running on schedule.’ For instance, the End of the Bridge renovations have been penciled in for this summer for a long time, so, it’s likely to happen.’ But will new services be enough to compete with the SAC’s prime position?
