The men’s basketball team defeated the New Hampshire Wildcats by a score of 67-49, to end their losing streak at 2. Stony Brook (SB)improves to 9-17, 4-10 in conference play.
New Hampshire jumped out to an early lead, taking the first score, and widening their lead to 7 in just over 6 minutes of play. Within two minutes, SBU was able to tie it up at 13, and the teams spent the rest of the half going back and forth, but with the Seawolves holding the slight edge all along. They went into halftime up 29-27.
About 2 1/2 minutes after the break, New Hampshire took a 1-point lead, which would turn out to be their final lead of the game. SB got out to a large lead, hitting 20 at times, and never looked back. New Hampshire’s shooting was terrible, hitting only 28% of their shots to SB’s 43%.
Jermaine Anderson had 20 points and Dan McGeary had 19 for the Wildcats, but no other player had more than 4. For SB, Ricky Lucas led the way with 22, and Mike Popoko had 16.
Thursday night is Senior Night for the Seawolves, as they wrap up their home schedule against Albany. Tipoff is at 7.
