A powerful blizzard hit Long Island last night and will continue into the evening with wind gusts as high as 55 miles per hour and an extra 5 to 8 inches of snow expected, according to the National Weather Service.

Though all forecasts pointed to rain, Stony Brook woke up to snow on Monday, March 31. SBU Transit service was suspended for two hours while roads were cleared, but classes remained in session.
As I am sure every student on campus has seen in the past month, this winter has brought on a lot of snow, bringing about early cancellations, delays and the like. What I’m sure everyone has also seen is the amount of snow and ice around Stony Brook’s main campus, where there were large sheets of black ice and a couple of plowed paths that allowed students to treacherously get to each of their classes.
