Austin Hecker says of himself, “I’m the kind of athlete that doesn’t really stop.” True enough, considering the challenges he has overcome to compete with the Stony Brook Wrestling Club.
Last weekend, the Stony Brook wrestling club had the chance to compete against some of the nation’s best teams in the National Wrestling Collegiate Association National Duals event in Dalton, Georgia. The No. 21 Seawolves picked up wins in two out of their six matchups, and finished 15th out of 24 teams in the tournament.
Last year, the Stony Brook wrestling team took the big step of finishing sixth in there conference, and establishing themselves as one of the top club teams on campus. Now, just one month into their second season, they find themselves ranked 18th in the latest National Collegiate Wrestling Association coaches’ poll.
