Stony Brook University President Samuel L. Stanley Jr. said the school is not considering any plans to rename Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. The name became a point of contention last month after the state senator, whom the stadium is named after, voted against a ban on gay conversion therapy.

But there are some organizations that have a deeper role; the Stony Brook Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Alliance (LGBTA) is one such organization. At the helm of this endeavor is junior English major Colleen O’Connor, the president of an organization that prides itself on being a safe space for those in the queer community who need a haven where they can be themselves.
